Creating the visual effects on the 2016 documentary film, Zero Days, directed by Alex Gibney, was a unique challenge. I was tasked to imagine how the world would appear if the underlying code that comprises modern infrastructure were visible in the physical realm. I achieved this goal by layering actual code samples and data points. Taking cues from the appearance of radar or LIDAR scans, the technology computers use to "see" the world around them, I created these digital spaces of interconnected data. With animation, I was then able to give life to the code, mimicking the complex data flow within computer networks that exist around us.
